What is the Rawalpindi Ring Road project?
Under the former ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), a ring road project was initially approved to ease the growing traffic congestion in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, with a road to be built from the Rawat, area of Rawalpindi. In 2016, work began on a project to prepare a preliminary feasibility report on the project under the principle of public-private partnership, and NesPak was included in the project, while the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) was tasked with all these matters. Supervision was assigned.
NesPak’s initial report on the Ring Road project was approved by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
The Asian Investment Bank also offered a 40 400 million loan for the project on easy terms. Negotiations with this bank took place in 2018 and after more than two years no negotiations took place again.
